VNC through Windows firewall
If you like to use a VNC program to remotely access your/a machine, but find it is being blocked by the Windows firewall (XP Sp2) - you can quite easily allow VNC through the Windows firewall, without turning the Windows firewall off.
To do this,
- go to Control Panel
- open the Windows Firewall snap in
- choose exceptions from the top menu
- choose ‘Add Port…’
- Name it VNC,type in the correct port number (usually 5900) ensure TCP is selected and click Ok
That’s it! VNC will now pass through the Windows firewall.
